Oil leak Why?

You should put a film of oil on the filter's rubber O-Ring before putting it on.

this is the first thing i thought when i read that the rubber seal "bulged"

Usually that's covered under "Oil filter 101", but quite possibly some out there never took the class..

Figures the one day I don't go to classe, they tell you not to kick over the oil you just opened to lube the ring.

Some people will drain their oil, stick their finger in it, and lube the seal with dirty oil. That never made sense to me. You have to open the clean oil anyway.
