I was wondering what the stock jet size would be for a 96 scrambler 400. My quad is so slugesh and thought it was time for me to change the jet. I bought my quad used and it had a 220 in it with a DG pipe and silencer. I put a 200 in it? I can only take small test runs because I live in the city, but it seems to have more zip. Is the jump down from 220, to 200 good or dangerous. How can I tell? and should I have gone with a a jet bigger than 220 rather than going smaller.

Don't go with a smaller jet!! No fuel equals NO GO! I run a 270 main jet on my '96 Scrambler with my RCR Stage 1 kit.

Stock is a 250 main jet. Try this one first and see what happens. But with your pipe I would try a 260.

'96 Scrambler w/RCR Stage 1 kit, K&N filter, and Boyesen Power Reeds.

For a Scrambler 400 at an altitude 0 to 3000 feet.
At 3000 to 6000 ft drop each main down by 20.
Anything higher than that sell the quad & get a pack mule.

TEMP
below 0 - 270 main
0 to 40 - 250 main
40 to 80 - 230 main
80+ - 210 main

Thanks for the info. I made it more clear in another post of exactly my situation. If you wouldn't mind carrying this on in my other post, and answering my question there it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
