Yea had a 3 chain drive system, double sprocket on the transmission that went to the rear and center chain. From the center eccentric transitioned to the front chain that drove the front eccentric and drive shafts. Front hubs were the same as the later models. A lot of chains and sprockets to keep up with, but worked well. Prop shafts/front differentials on the later 4x4s did make things a little easier to maintain.

Oh yes.. If working correctly you could lock the rear wheels down on these old mechanically operated emergency rear brakes. The rear caliper worked off the main hydraulic system also just like the other models. The emergency pedal brakes lost stopping power when they went to the small master cylinder. Because so many people didn't ever use the pedal brake, the seals would dry up in the master cylinders and you'd constantly have to bleed them, replace the master cylinder or install aftermarket seal kits that are on ebay now. To me the mechanical system was the best. If it needed adjusting to accommodate for pad wear, all you had to do was loosen the lock nut on the outer bolt, turn the bolt in until the pedal started to rise and was about 1/2" off the floor board. Then tighten the lock nut.Actually the first ones out had a **** that you turned, but most cracked and fell off leaving just the bolt head.
