It can cause problems yes.. Modules such as the regulator can go first along with cdis, bulbs, etc. You can generally check all the stator yellows also by checking resistance between each other. Yellows should show some resistance between each other with no yellows shorting to ground. Plus in some cases you can visually check for bulges, burnt areas, plus sometimes you can smell modules and tell if they're burnt.Again the manual is the best on tests and checking..

Okay, but if I were to unplug the the voltage regulator would it make any difference? Like just to test if it is that or not? And how would I test the voltage regulator and CDI? Thanks

NO good cdi test. manuals say to replace with a known good one.. That's why you try to eliminate everything else first, then replace a cdi if all other tests are positive..Just look at this generalized regulator test.
You can disconnect the regulator and see if it cranks. If it doesn't,problems are elsewhere.

Is there any way to bypass the CDI? I saw a website that explains how to bypass the CDI do you think this would actually work? Just for a second or two to determine if the CDI is really the problem causing the ATV to not start?

I have attached a link of the resource where I got this information from,

Thanks

How do you bypass a CDI box?

Better to just get the cheap 5 buck manual rather than take a chance on further damage if the stator isn't already damaged in doing these by pass tricks...

And to add on to that. The bike has been through lots of salt and water. And also, I removed the rear fender to fix the rear differential bracket and when I was pulling the battery wires back into the hole to attach the to the battery, I was using quite some force pulling on the wires, and also. there has been previous issues with the bike randomly stalling and not being able to start for like 20 minutes. It has only happened like once or twice, but when this happened I thought it was just the same issue, but it has been almost 3 weeks now since this has happened and now the bike is getting in the way and we need it fixed.
