Yes you have to remove the brake caliper and rotor, plus there is a retainer ring that has to be removed also.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse A cheap 5 buck manual can help you on this and any other maintenance or repairs. Doesn't matter what year model as they were all the same.2002 Polaris Xpedition 425 Service Manual PDF Download

Well I downloaded my copy...only problem is mines a 2000...and the snap ring behind the rotor...is not where manual says it will be. Is it behind that lovely seal that apparently failed as it is full of rust around the shaft.
And the 2002 manual says slide axle right...except how do you get the bearing/s out of that tube without taking of said tube from the differential...

Oh yes,the tube needs to unbolt from the differential. Not a fun job changing out bearings and seals or anything else on this model.

Well I got the tube off....how to you get those bearings out..and looking from the differential side it appears there is a snap ring to act as a stop for when new bearings are installed from wheel side

Snap ring has to be removed,a long punch to slide the bearing spacer over a bit to get to the edge of the bearing and knock it out. Pull the spacer out and knock the other bearing out. Reverse the steps on assembly.

Well...got it apart... Not exactly the way mine came apart. Rotor with hub slides up against bearing which pushes bear when tightening the axle nut onto the wheel hub. This pushes the outer bearing against the inner bearing spacer whpushes against the inner bearing whish for some stupid reason has a huge snap ring placed against the inner bearing race to hold it I guess agint a back stop and another spacer that goes over another snap ring.
Tried a 20 to press first...no luck...took a 10 pound sledge...a 10 inch heavy punch and it finally blew apart . full if rust mud and crud. What a job...

Hope you were able to get this all managed, as it's been a few months! If you haven't, though, could be worth checking out American CV Store (americancvstore.com) for parts. They've got a lot of aftermarket parts.

Jeez! Newbie here - inadvertently reported my response to this! Ouch. Anyway, hope you were able to manage this. If not, take a look around at American CV Store (americancvstore.com) for aftermarket parts - lots of models, and generally good prices.
