Yes you have to remove the brake caliper and rotor, plus there is a retainer ring that has to be removed also.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse A cheap 5 buck manual can help you on this and any other maintenance or repairs. And the 2002 manual says slide axle right...except how do you get the bearing/s out of that tube without taking of said tube from the differential...

Well I got the tube off....how to you get those bearings out..and looking from the differential side it appears there is a snap ring to act as a stop for when new bearings are installed from wheel side

Snap ring has to be removed,a long punch to slide the bearing spacer over a bit to get to the edge of the bearing and knock it out. Pull the spacer out and knock the other bearing out. Reverse the steps on assembly.

Tried a 20 to press first...no luck...took a 10 pound sledge...a 10 inch heavy punch and it finally blew apart . full if rust mud and crud. What a job...

Jeez! Newbie here - inadvertently reported my response to this! Ouch. Anyway, hope you were able to manage this. If not, take a look around at American CV Store (americancvstore.com) for aftermarket parts - lots of models, and generally good prices.
