I just replaced my belt w/ Goodyear Power streak. I first noticed the new belt is slightly larger or heavier but the same diamater. My old belt made no tapping or knocking sounds but I had smoked it a number of times and Im getting ready for a weekend away of riding. The new belt did fit a bit "tighter" but I thought this was because of typical wear on the old belt. In forward gear now my quad will crawl forward where my old belt would just sit there until I gassed it. Again I figured new belt better contact or tension because of less wear. In nuetral if I rev the engine as the RPMs are coming down I get a tapping sound against the plastic cover, not severe and only for a second. My concern is that it didnt do this before. Are there other adjustments that need to be done when you replace the belt?

When you change a belt, all you have to do is slip the old one off and put the new one on. There are no other adjustments I know of.

I replaced my belt with a dayco belt and had no problems at all with it.

If i were in your shoes,Id get another belt.

When I replaced my belt I pulled the clutch piece. Slipped the belt over and replaced the piece I removed. I could not have slipped the belt over without pulling this piece. Did I do this wrong?

ScramMan, Did you possiblly leave out one or two shims between the clutch sheaves making the sheaves closer together and causing the belt to have more tension, making your scrambler creep on you when in gear? You should have been able to slip your new belt on with out any trouble. Check your numbers on the belt and make sure you have the correct belt.
If all of these things are correct then you might have to add a shim between your clutch sheaves to give you some extra slack in your belt.

I would have to wonder if you got the clutch back together right or if the new belt is indeed the correct one. Im not sure what part you removed but when i changed my belt i didnt have to remove anything to get the old one off and the new one on. Im at a loss as to what to suggest.

Either adding or removing a shim should do the trick. Happens a lot when you are going to a new belt.
