KFI lists it as the right one for the 2012 Sportsman 500 HO. Directions say to mount it that way.

The mount is in the correct orientation.
The winch itself should have the motor on the RH end. You have it on the LH end.
The winch looks like it's not an ATV specific unit. ATV winches have a smaller motor than other applications.
