Polaris is recalling nearly 10,000 Sportsman 570 ATVs due to a fire hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission:

I feel bad for Polaris and the owners of all these machines. I had a slight association with Polaris in my working life. I've been at their headquarters, there (now closed) Osseo engine plant, and their Spirit Lake assembly plant. Our little factory made accessory boxes and coolers for Polaris. My neighbor in Minnesota worked for Polaris.
I wonder what a damaged fuel rail is on a Polaris machine. Do they have direct fuel injection now? I know what a fuel rail is on a diesel, but not on a Polaris Sportsman. Maybe vibration is causing wear in the pressurized fuel system. I'm sure Polaris has already figured out how their life testing missed this situation and made changes so it won't happen again.
Hopefully the fix will be solid and easy. Hopefully any parts needed are being made and shipped as I write this.

If the rail is getting damaged then looking at the 2014 model it sure looks like the fuel rail is too high almost to the top of the engine. The seat or air box snorkel may be putting pressure on it. Who knows really until they announce the cause of the problem, but they may not say.

Maybe an affected Sportsman 570 owner can chime in with more specifics.
Was the RZR recall last summer also related to the fuel system? Or was that just too much heat causing melted plastics and a fire threat.

Well I got lucky on this one. Although I purchased my 570 in August, Polaris said mine wasn't included in the recall. They didn't tell me any specifics as to the issue. They assured me it was safe to ride. Only issue I've had so far is the hot exhaust. I wrapped the header with header wrap and that problem is gone.

Glad yours is ok. Affected models probably built on a Friday or Monday like what happened on some of the old cars,or so they said..

That is a possibility. Only 10k units recalled across the different models for 2 years of production. Might be the ones worked on by a former employees shift....Ya never know!

The article says "This recall involves model year 2014 through 2016 Sportsman 570 Touring and X2 model ATVs and model year 2017 Sportsman 570 6×6 model ATVs." Does that mean the plain 570 single seat 4x4 wasn't recalled?
