Hello everyone, I recently purchased a 1998 400 Explorer. I took it out over the weekend for its first real trailride. Here's what I noticed: it won't start unless its choked, it won't idle, and it sputters once in a while. I took the plug out and cleaned it and it rode better for a while but then started doing the same again. I was planning on taking it to a local polaris shop and having them give it a tune-up(adjust the carb, injector, new plug, etc.) I figure this should remedy the problem. Just wondering what you all think or if anyone has experienced the same. Also, it has a new K&N filter in it so that shouldn't be the problem. Lata.

Do a compression test. If compression is low install Wiseco piston. If ok, remove carb and clean well with cleaner and pressurized air, install nes plug and air filter. Save yourself some $$$$$$ and do these things and it should run well.
