I was thinking about buying one of the new Sportsman 400's and was just wondering how people that had one liked them? Are they as good as the 500's or do they lack in power due to the smaller engine in the 500 frame? I guess the power issue is about the only thing, since they are practically the same as the 500 in everything else, but any opinions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I've had one since last October and can only say good things about it. Easy to operate and ride for me and the wife (first quad). I never rode a 500 but the 400 has plenty of power. I've never been in a situation yet where I needed more power. Changing the oil is a pain in the butt. I have about 100 hours on it so far plan on putting a lot on this summer.

Good luck with whatever you get

it has the 425 liquid cooled motor out of the 425 Expedition, it is a great motor. It must be close to a non HO Sportsman in power.

Well, so far, I love my new Sportsman 400. It is still new, because I only got it Friday. Go ahead and get one, I think you'll like it.

So far I'm not real thrilled. I have a 01 SP400 with 130 miles.#1 the AWD light doesn't work. #2water in the speedo . #3 front brakes squel #4the rear brakes inside pad hanges up sometimes.#5when I take off slow there is a thumping from the belt until I get higher RPMS about 5mph. I missed the $70 winch by 5 days and POLARIS won't answer my 3 emails. The dealer said he would fix all the problems but it makes me wonder about the company (polaris). What happend to Quaility Controll and keeping the consumer happy? There seem to be alot of people with only good things to say, maybe its just my bad luck.GOOD LUCK

Your belt thumping is from a burnt belt. You must have lugged it down and burnt the belt in 1 spot somewhere along the way. The belt will need replaced.

I bought a sp400 for my wife, I of course have a sp335. The sp400 is a lot better than the 335 is, and the power is close to a sp500. Which my brother has, the only problem now is I get burned by my wife!
