Borrow an auto ranging meter if you can.Makes life so much easier.Some auto stores you can rent them for a small refundable deposit. Plus just go past idle,doesn't have to be spot on any given rpm range.

 

I'll see if I can get one, what reading should I be getting? Also what setting for ac?

 

, not sure if it makes a difference but when I enter Diagnostics on speedometer when idling it is only reading 12.4 when I read it it doesn't change from 12.4

 

Ok here's where I'm at. Got home from work tonight and my impatience got to me lol. I put the new ecm in and fired it up. RPMS still read 0 at idle but work when I give it some throttle?? I went into speedo diagnostic mode and volts read 12.4 at idle and only go up to about 12.6 when I give it some throttle. I hooked up my meter to battery at idle and it reads 12.8 but it slowly goes up to 13.8+/- after idling a few minutes.
When my fan kicked on it dropped back down to 12.3 then when fan turned off it slowly went back up to over 13 volts. Battery light didn't go on at all this time and I Let it idle for 5 min a few different times after letting it sit for a little bit.
While off I hooked my battery charger up to it and my charger is saying it is at 75% it didn't move off 75% after charging for 20 min either. After idling for a fee minutes I turned it off and checked voltage at battery and it was at 12.7
My efi 800 sportsman reads around 14.5+/- when idling and for the hell of it I hooked my battery charger up to it and it also only said just over 75%% I'm going to bed, my head hurts lol let me know what you think OPT

 

Okay so I charge the battery just getting up and I ran the same test over 13 volts quad off start it drops down to just under 12 volts let it idle it's at 12.7 and slowly goes up when I rev it now it goes up past 16 volts again. I don't understand so it wasn't the ECM

 

Take this battery to ANY auto supply and have it properly load tested.... This will at least tell you the state it's in and whether it needs to be changed or not. You can't use the display as an accurate form of testing. The point of the whole thing is that charging should not go to 16 volts.. If you installed a new ecm and it's over charging then it's more than likely stator related unless you've gotten a faulty ecm which I've seen happen before. Never order parts before you get to the root of the problem as you can't return them. Cheap stators are available on ebay,amazon,etc if you end up having to replace it. Box the new ecm back up and place it on a shelf as you WILL eventually need it as they all fail at some time or another.

 

Just had battery tested and it's rated for 165cca it has 143cca, voltage 12.69 it was good. I did notice it has a smaller battery than it should. It has the 12A should have the 14A battery but I don't think that should make a difference

 

Get the correct 14 amp battery called for..

 

so you're saying that the size of the battery could have something to do with what is going on? This isn't my 4-wheeler I'm working on it for a friend they can install a battery if they want to I'm just trying to get the problem figured out, I could throw my battery from my Sportsman 800 in there and see if it changes anything but I didn't think that would make any difference in my issue going on

 

Have you had this done or checked it yourself? Voltage isn't always an indicator of battery condition..
