Digital Wrench -e.p.c reading
#1
Hi, I am needing specific information about the capability of a digital wrench reading. From what I was told at my local Polaris dealership that it is possible to bring in my Sportsman 500 to the dealership and they can hook it up to a digital wrench to get an e.p.c. reading. I am wanting a print-out of this reading (of which they charge $31) so that I can ascertain the actual mileage on the ATV and compare it with what is show on the title. Which is in question. This will be used for the purpose of evidence in small claims court. Does anyone know for certain if this is possible? To ascertain the actual miles / hours of the ATV from the digital wrench and get a print out. (One dealer said on the phone that they could only the total number of hours on the machine. Another said they could get everything including the mileage.).

Digital wrench shows hrs, don't remember off hand if it shows mileage and usually most shops could print off what you want on the tests. But as with anything else on atvs, a spedo could have been changed out which is a lot easier than trying something like that on a car or truck.Whether the ecu could pick something like that up,don't know.Just double checking if it's an Ho carb model or an efi machine. Digital Wrench is for efi models.

Carb models don't have a diagnostic port for Digital Wrench to plug in. All you can go by is the hrs and mileage shown on the speedo which as I mentioned can be replaced. Not saying that it has,but I've changed out plenty for people that have had wrecks in which they damaged h/l pods, spedos, etc. Efi(fuel injection) is a completely different system. Throttle body and sensors instead of a carb, ecu that gets info from sensors and adjusts air/fuel ratio, etc.

FYI, this year 2013 of carboretor, with injectors, was unable to provide information as to the epc (digital wrench) reading. So loaded up the ATV brought it to the shop and it was a no go to get the total hours on the machine from it. Oh well, glad to know about the information for any future models and or problems.

That's kinda what I've been telling you about carb models, the speedometer hrs is all you can go by plus they can always be changed out to show fewer hrs than what they really have.

I've replaced speed heads on all three of Dads' 2000 & 2002 machines because the old ones were damaged and full of water and the AWD wasn't engaging. All three ATVs are in their second youth now with only a few hours and a few miles. >;^)>
I did write the date and my initials on the speed heads and Speedo:MM/DD/YYYY Miles/Hours-Unknown inside the pod cover with a sharpie.
No telling what the old speed heads said before they died. They would've been missing the miles/hours between when they got bashed and gave up the ghost til I swapped in the new ones.
Not everyone is honest. Seems folks take pride in how well they can stretch the truth anymore.
Dad Mom and I would tell the whole story if we sold em. Hours/Miles are only since the speed head swap. All three have lots.

Glad you'd be honest with buyers if you ever sold them. Like you mentioned a lot of people wouldn't and I've had a lot of those kind of people come through our shop.
