i have 2 Polaris quads one is a 2001 sportsman 400 the other a 2001 sportsman 500 parts quad. The 400 has been having bad cooling issues i narrowed it down to the water pump and its seals shortly after pulling the seals and putting the new ones back in i pulled the rope and the shaft had looked like it had a wobble in it. My question is, can i take the water pump shaft out of the 500 parts quad and put it in my 400 and it do the job and what would it take to do so

It takes splitting the engine to replace the oil pump/water pump shaft. Cheaper in cost and labor to just buy a new one for 40 bucks. If you have to pull a water pump seal again, let a dealer do it or invest in the right tool to keep from bending the shaft. Having it stripped down, ready to pull, most dealers won't charge that much to pull the seal. I pulled plenty of seals for people along with splitting engines for people that pried them out and bent shafts. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Polaris-287...1Z73lW&vxp=mtr Both shafts in the 400,500 are the same..

New gasket on the water pump cover at least.Plus if mine I'd go ahead and replace the w/p seal again along with the oil seal since you'd have the engine apart. Cam cover gasket if not damaged can be used again with a film of gasket maker. Use Threebond,Yamabond,or similar type engine sealer such as Permatex Grey for this and the engine cases.https://www.permatex.com/products/un...et-maker-grey/
