2016 sportsman 570 sp .I've gotten this code 3 times after riding for a few minutes. It usually flashes twice right after I come to a stop .The code is not in my owners manual and I've heard different things. Tps and throttle cable slack. I don't know what to check or change at this point

 

The code you have is a Throttle Release Voltage Out of Range. How the system is designed to work is that there is a switch inside the right hand control that opens and closes based on the position of the thumb throttle. This switch is tied to 2 resistors inside the switch assembly and the effectively there are 2 voltages the computer is looking for. If the switch is unplugged this will trigger the code you have as the voltage goes out of range. My guess is that the wiring going to the right hand control is connecting intermittently when you are riding machine, or the switch/resistor combo, is bad. To test switch use a digital ohm meter and look at the resistance on pins one and two of the right hand control assembly. Pin 1 wire should be a pink/white tracer. Pin 2 wire should be violet. Disconnect the right hand control wiring harness from the control and use the multimeter to measure the resistance of the switch. Without pressing the throttle the ohm meter should read ~6790 Ohms, and when the throttle is pressed the resistance should be ~2150 Ohms. If the measurements are close then most likely it is a wiring issue.

 

Thanks for the ton of detailed information .I'll check that tomorrow. I was wondering if throttle cable slack adjustment can play a role in that because it kinda feels like the lock nut is loose under the jacket

 

You should have 1/16"-1/8" slack in the throttle cable but no more than that. Any more and the ETC may think it senses a broken or stuck cable.

 

The ohm meter read should be opposite :2150 ohms not pressed and 6790 when pressed
