Jet Kit for SP500
#1
Has anyone put in a jet kit on a Sportsman 500 2000. I put on a MegaMax II and it has increased the power. The cool thing about that exhaust is that You can make it as loud or as quite as you want. Spark arrestor included. The installation insructions I got were not wright but I figured it out. They recomend that I put a jet kit in I think that they wanted me to move up from a 155 to a 160. Is this a complicted thing to do I don't know a thing about jet kits but I'm going to learn. Any avise would be appreciated.

It's not really a kit. It is just a main jet.
The jets available are
155, 157.5, 160, 162.5, 165, 167.5, 170
Make sure you emphasize to the parts manager that this is a 4 stroke jet not a snowmobile jet or you will get the wrong one.
The 160 sounds okay, but call your Polaris dealer first and ask him if he has it before you make the trip. Chances are he will have to order it.
You will have to pull the bowl off of the bottom of the carburetor to change the jet. So before you attempt to remove the bowl, clean the outside of the carburetor as well as you can to prevent dirt from entering upon re-assembly.
There are 4 screws holding the fuel bowl on the bottom of the carb. Do not strip/round off these bowl screws. I would recommend picking up a brand new high quality #2 Philips screw driver before attempting to remove the screws. Then change the screws with stainless steel replacements from Tru-Value Hardware or ACE.
Carefully remove the bowl taking care not to disturb the floats (black in color). You will see the jet right there after you remove the bottom.
