I have a polaris 50 for my kids that bogs out at anything past 1/4 throttle. I can typically fix anything. It feels like fuel delivering. A shot of carb cleaner at full throttle will bring it right back to life and it'll even keep going as long as I don't let off the throttle, but if you let off the throttle and then get into again it will bog and bog until it finally dies.
I cleaned the carb a bunch of times, thinking i missed something. Then I bought a new carb and it acts the same way with the new carb. Cranking the air mixture screw all the way in makes it run better, lifting the needle all the way up helps too. I tweeked the float so that it would fill up more and that helped too. Something is not right.
It has no screen or restrictor in the exhaust
the oil pump is not hooked up, I am running mixed gas. Would that make is so much leaner that it would act like this?
compression is good (3 cranks gets 90psi)
removing the air cleaner makes it run worse (they say is normal) but if I do, I can choke it with my hand and get it screaming around
It was better in summer... I knew it wasn't right all summer but it got the job done. Now it the winter, it is really bad.
Cold engine is better, likely because the enrichener is helping
Stator? doesn't seem likely to me.
Reed valves
Air leak? I tried spray carb cleaner all around and didn't help
from what ive been able to find its a 4 stroke engine that your running like a 2 stroke. if im understanding, please correct me if im wrong. oil changes the burn rate of fuel which could mean that when you give it fuel your cdi is telling the plug to fire too early.
have you tried checking how much fuel is in the bowl. Your initial problem of bogging down sounds like your fuel bowl not filling up so when you give it gas it tries to pull from the bowl and coming up dry. Or your idling on the wrong circuit in the carb.
if your getting enough fuel out of the bowl when you drain it then adjust your Idle circuit and open a quarter to half a turn at a time.
CDI's are well known to go bad on polaris's.
Yes, 90 is good but did you max it out (spin more)?
Crank seal?
Plugged exhaust?
how do I check the crank seal? It did go higher than 90 but I don’t remember. I’m leaning towards rejetting it. Polaris dealer says they are all lean from the factory and with age they act up.
if I unplug my choke so it runs rich all the time, it runs pretty good so I doubt it’s compression or reed valve related. Maybe a crank seal sucking air?
