1999 Xplorer axle removal
#1
Hi all, Im new to the forum and not much of a mechanic but willing to try!
I got a 1999 polaris xplorer 400 from a friend that needs a little work. One major issue is the rear carrier bearings are really bad. Lots of axle slop, in fact I can see the bearing on the right (chain side) moving when I move the axle.
I obviously want to put in new bearings, however I'm not seeing any xplorers out there in videos that look like mine. Basically, one difference is there is only one axle nut on both sides of the axle. Its my understanding that the axle should have 2 axle nuts on the chain side that need to be taken off so that I can push the axle through. Could I be missing one? Is this the reason I can see the bearing that is already partially out of the housing? Any help on this process would be greatly appreciated. Needing to pick up a wrench for the axle nut to get started. Thanks!
