belt alignment???
#1
For some reason my belt has been wearing down at the top of the back roller on the outside of the belt. I go through a belt in about two to three months. It looks like the belt slides outwards over the top edge of the back roller and then it starts to fray. Is there some kind of adjustment that can be made. It has been like this since I bought it. The dealer mentioned something about shims but he didn't know how to do it (first one he has seen). Any ideas??
Thanks,
Steve

You can shim the rear clutch by taking it apart and putting in shims between the 2 pulley halves this will make the rear pulley open up and should let the belt ride in the rear pulley. I don't know if you have had the rear clutch apart or not but they are normally shimmed right. Also be carefull not to lose the shims behind the rear clutch. I remember that you were going to work on your rear clutch after a big guy rode it and it sounded to me to pop the rear spring out of position. You may have left out the shims or put them behind the clutch unit on the tranny shaft. I think the internal shims have a larger ID so you should be able to tell the difference.
Hope This Helps

I guess I will go buy the service manual because I would rather do my own work than pay the dealer. I think it is fun to do the repairs and adjustments myself so I can learn more about my Scrambler, that's why I asked in case somebody else has seen this problem and fixed it. I could haul it and leave at dealers for a few days and then go back and pick it up or I can ride it, take it apart and fix it, and ride it again all in the same day, plus gain some valuable experience.
