Riding in the Snow
#11
You want snow head up to AK. I like riding in the snow but we have it on the ground from Oct-May and that gets old on a 4-wheeler. When the stuff gets deep break out the snowmobiles. Now if I only could afford one of those for next year.

What is this "Snow " you speak of? I know but we rarly see any here in S.C. When we do you would think the world was coming to an end. Let one snowflake fall and traffic on the roads comes to a crawl, The streets in town become a demolition derby and the store shelves empty. I fortunatly have had some expierience driving in snow up the east coast so I don,t suffer quiet as bad as some of the locals.

It snowed about 6 inches here last week so on Thanksgiving we used the Scramblers to tow the kids (and their kids) around the field on their sleds and saucers. Everyone got wet and cold and had a great time.
Best Thanksgiving we've had in years. Instead of a dozen wild kids in the house, we had a dozen happy kids and their folks enjoying some fresh air (and letting my wife have some peace and quiet).
Now if we can just get a white Christmas...

Hey cob the sleds have already started to gather up near Rob Roy, we are supposed to get some more snow wednesday. I went home to Texas for Thanksgiving and between Fort Collins and Laramie there were probably 15 pickups leaving the mountains with there snowmobiles.

LOVE the snow!
Sportsman 500 does great, but will need new tires soon. Finally go the wife out with her new '00 Kodiak .. she & her ATV did very well for a first-timer. Took almost all day to cover 12 miles of "difficult" terrain north of Woodland Park, CO. No major rock climbs, but thick trees, steep, off-camber and slippery mix of mud & snow... *loads* of fun. (except the parts of the trail that really isn't wide enough for the Sportsman).
Can't wait for the next ride.

I live in the south-central part of Wisconsin but we ride in the north, the Iron County / Hurley area to be specific. There’s been no snow here yet but up there, spittin’ distance from the big lake they are in the Lake Superior Snow Belt and according to the last weather service report they have 8” on the ground. Because the last two weekends were included in our 9 day deer gun hunt I haven’t been up there for three weeks but we’re headed north this Thursday night for the weekend. This will be the first time my Mud Runners have seen snow so I’m really looking forward to the experience.

I love the snow. Even better on the ice.
The snow sucks if you get more than a foot or so on the ground. 6 inches is the best. A foot will hang up your quad and everything becomes a battle.
The ice is really the coolest place on a 4x4. Stud the tires and you can really feel the AWD system on the Polaris. The fronts will pull you in the right direction!
I did my scrambler last winter and the 99 Xplorer 400 I had. What a blast.
I will stud the scrambler again and the 400EX. We will see what the EX will do in the snow and ice. I ran a LT250R at the end of last winter and it was a blast in the snow. You had to 'surf' it everywhere.
But there is still nothing like doing 100mph on a lake on a sled. Man!
If I could only afford to have 2 quads and 2 sleds......
Ah, one day.....
