Hi. I have an SP500 and I think I may have a problem with the front hubs NOT disconecting after useing AWD. First, I need to say that the method I'm useing to tell if the hubs are disconnected is by the effort required for steering. It seems that when in 2wd, it steers lighter then 4wd. Anyhow, it had been about 2 months since my last ride and I noticed that it was harder to steer. I tried backing up and nothing seemed to fix it. When I switch on AWD, the steering only gets a little harder where I seem to remeber a bigger difference before. I stopped on some rocks so that the right front tire was off the ground and was able to spin it freely. Does this mean that the hubs are unlocked? Now that I think about it, I only spun the wheel forward, not backward. Since the design of the 4x4 system allows for the front wheels to spin forward and only lock in when the rear wheels slip, I suppose the hub could still be locked. On the ride back, I noticed that the air pressure on my front tires looks to be a little lower then I remeber. Could this be the problem? I'm sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for your help.

try riding through some water....may be some mud or something on there--that always frees mine up...

Low air pressure will result in heavier steering. Check that first.

You will see an allen type screw on both your front hubs.Turn the wheel so the allen screw is at the 3 oclock position.Unscrew the allen screw, hub fluid should come out at this position,if not, fill hub until fluid comes out in the 3 o'clock position with Polaris hub fluid. Also, when backing up,take the AWD to the off position and turn the wheels side to side, this should free up the hubs to.GOOD LUCK---------BILL

My Scrambler is like that sometimes... As with most all 4wd machines, you should stop, shift to revers, and back up to make sure they are disengaged..
Something that might help is to make sure you have to override button depressed and back up "quickly" I try to make sure i've backed up fast enough to spin the rear tires.. It seems that I can feel the hubs grab for a second, and "let go" and then they are unlocked..
And Yeah, like Bill said.. Fluid is a GOOD thing.. You can use Type F automatic transmission fluid in there as an alternative.

That's what I do too, I back and make sure the tires spin a little. I use trans fluid in my hubs, I haven't priced Polaris fluid, but I bet it's not cheap.
