davidg, in a sense of fairness, I point out: SuperWinch specifications may be found at superwinch.com.

SuperWinch recently upgraded its motors in models ATV2000 and T1500 (tested for 9 hours completely submerged, producing 2400 # stall force after immersion); the ATV2000 contains an internal spring brake standard (retrofittable to the T1500); and a new heavy-duty handlebar-mounted rocker switch with two dust covers is available.

I understand the Rule is a quality product, but have no experience with it. However, I own both Warn and SuperWinches with only good operational experience from both.

Tree Farmer,

What does internal spring brake mean?

Warn also has a brake kit for the 2000 and 2500. It is easy to install. If I did it, it is easy.
For Kevin--I am, by no means a "world class powerlifter", but I squat 525 for 8-10 reps, at 190 pound bodyweight. When he gets close to 1000 pounds, then let him tell you he's world class. But, he still won't be able to outpull an ATV winch .

davidg, small winches (like the SuperWinch ATV2000/T1500; Warn A2000/A2500) with planetary gear drives, do not positively hold their load when the winch is not under power, unless some mechanical brake is applied.

The SuperWinch ATV2000 has an internal mechanical brake standard; this part may be fitted to the T1500. Posters say mechanical brakes may be added to the Warn winches.

Without a mechanical brake on these small winches, a load, such as a snowplow blade, will slip.

I believe all these winches feature dynamic braking (meaning, the winch will not "coast" when power is removed), and shunt braking (meaning, a shunt across the armature when power is removed provides resistance to rotation in the permanent magnet field), however, these braking mechanisms will not hold much of a load.

Shunt braking on larger winches (e.g., X-Series SuperWinches) hold pretty fast, with the larger electromagnets and stronger fields available.

kevin_staton,

I will solve that problem, the one were you can't rap a cable aronund a tree, by putting about 7 feet of chin on the end of the winch cable so I can rap it around a tree.

We don't have any, That I know of, places that are steep enough to have someone winch you down. If they are I don't ride on them.

David, get a ****** block! I have never seen a Rule, but I have seen everything from 1500-2500lb winches not have enough power to get out the big machines when the mud is really thick & deep. None had a ****** block though.

A winch is one of those things you think would be a nice creature comfort, but once you have one, you will wonder how you survived without at least one in your group.

Got the winch on. Decided to get tube bumpers too while I was there. I'm having trouble with the front bumper. I can't get the bottom 3 holes in the bracket lined up with the 3 in the winch bracket and the brush guard. hmmm...

It looks like where the fairlead would normally bolt onto the winch bracket is hitting the lower tube of the bumper and keeping the holes from lining up.

Any ideas?
