Yam8,get a life. You obviously did'nt read about a fellow worker of mine that owned the Grizz. He was on a 98 Grizz,me on my 99 Sportsman. The poor ole boy got SO tired of me pulling him out of the SAME mud bogs that my Sportman ran thru, that he give the Griz to his wife and went out and bought a new Sportsman.Your Grizz is just 3wd by the way. Many of them Overheat.Dont bring you *** in ANY manufactures Forums and start bragging about the Grizz.Nor should you put down ANYBODYS choice of what they ride. These Forums are for the purpose of helping each other fellow ATVer out with sound advice ect.I hope you adhere to my advice. You really dont want me to start listing all the problems I know wrong with the Grizz. You talk about how reliable your Grizz is.Hell you aint had it long enough to know yet.Ride your ride, let others ride theirs.====BILL

Yam8,
As the previous owner of TWO Yamahas, I feel I have a right to speak about this Yamaha Grizzly thing..
Ok, 98 Grizzly, bought brand new.. Let me list the problems.. Front wheel-bearings had to be replaced twice. Continous overheating problems that were NEVER cured... A rear brake that would have worked better by tying the drum to a rope attached to the frame and just throwing it around a tree when you want to stop. Triple sealed MY A$$...
Front brakes went away when wet/muddy. Had two or three sets of front brakes replaced. And to finish it off, the shifter mechanism started acting up and on the way to the trailer, it was overheating and started smoking.... Gee, could it have been the intense heat cooking the rings??.... DDUUHH!!
Ok, 98 Big Bear 2x4 bought brand new... first mudhole, brakes??/ what are brakes??.. They have NEVER came back..(yes I have cleaned and adjusted them, but when you ride thru water/mud.. they are gone again.)
Engine started smoking and rattling, took to shop, factory defect head, replaced in only 1 1/2 months of hunting season.. Got it back, broke again unloading from trailer, back to shop, another new head.. this time they didn't put all the old internals in the new head casting... another 2 months... clutch was screwed... come to find out, the Yamaha mechanic didn't put all the clutch parts back in. (found this out from another Yamaha dealership that fixed it)
Got it back, engine failure after 20 minutes of riding at Karnack mudrun last year, entire engine shot... 2 month rebuild by different Yamaha dealership... Got it back, engine is great, still no brakes, one oil cooler exploded, got that fixed, is next to impossible to get into and out of first gear.. and the front wheel-bearings are in DESPERATE need of replacement right now, and the rear axle seals and bearings are shot...
Yamaha SUCKS!!!.... I see more of them broke down every weekend..
I have a friend that works at the best Yamaha/Honda dealership in north east Texas and even he told me that they are JUNK..(referring to the Grizzly) He said that are so bad about overheating, they are keeping three spare engines in stock and regularly replace them.. Hes talking about one a week..

RangerSX,
1st let me say your quad sounds fast. But compare apples to apples. It's one thing to hopup a quad and race it, it's totally another to replace the whole engine and want to race people who have stock block motors. I saw a Polaris Sport in a magazine not to long ago that had a 750cc Polaris sled motor in it. That sounds like a race that you would want.... I'm not downing your quad but I believe if you want to race with the "big boys" so do it. If the Honda can handle a Polaris sled motor???

Andrew Thomas- let me think about this one..........hmmmmmm? Are you *** ? I am thinking that you are trying to say that polaris is better than honda?!? And if you are saying that, please i have faith in my quad. It may not beat it, but why ever back down from a challenge? anyone that does is just scared of getting beat. the reason i say this is that I myself(with help from my father) have built a ultimate race quad. It is the pride and integrity that i am proud of in my quad. so do say those things, you have never done this so please back off! thanks for your time!

Ranger,
All I'm saying is I used to go around and race my 5.0 Mustang. There were many different cars. You are the guy that puts a 302 in his Pinto. Sure you can beat other Pintos, but can your beat a Vega with a 350?
Hell I'd put my money on Goodmans Sport & it's still a stock block motor. Now if he had a 500cc Indy motor in it that would "technically" be a fair race.
BTW. Hondas are great but a 500 Honda & a 500 Polaris sled motor are in two different leagues.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if your the kind of guy that went around picking on Yamaha Timberwolves.

andrew- jeez, you dont get it, why would you ever compare something that you have never ridden or built! I built this machine, i customed it out, that is my point that the machine is sweet, and give me a break, you think a 400 polaris is going to match my speed and agility? hahahaha Does his 400 even go over 70? pri not, not a chance. I got mine going 85mph. will that suffice for you? dont say stuff like put a 500 sled motor in a polaris, have you ever driven one of those, have you ever seen one of those? Have you ever heard how they match up with brackets and mounts? WHY WHY WHY would you ever try to match my quad and a quad that doesnt exist up? please lay off!
