Warn 2000 winch recall
#1
Just saw the following notice. Looks like it went to all Warn dealers. If you have one, contact the dealer, Polaris or otherwise, that you bought it from.
The diagram shows that you should disconnect all winch wires from the battery and all the wires from the solenoid itself and to wrap the connections with electrical tape.
WARN hot line: 877-277-0539
Subject:
There have been recent, isolated reports of ATVs that have experienced fires on units with Warn 2000lb. winch kits that include a WHITE-RODGERS manufactured solenoid. These winch kits were sold between approximately November 1,2000 to present. These fires have occurred when the vehicles were parked and the winches were not being used. All such winches must be immediately disconnected until replacement components can be installed. Once the winches are disconnected the vehicles can be operated.

So what your saying is that it is the solinoid not the winch itself? I already replaced the original one with a comparable one I bought at the auto part store due to the wiring instructions given with the unit which had the winch powered at all times. So I put a toggle switch in.

Yes, it sounds like the White-Rodgers solenoid is the problem and only with the 2000 lb. winches. It sounds like Polaris will be replacing the solenoids for the winches they sold and they don't recommend buying a replacement elsewhere cuz it might not have enough capacity and may cause problems.

Hey, Dazed. It looks like we're neighbors in Polaris country. Small world. My name is Rick Corneliusen. I work at the big M and my wife works in Human Resources for the other major Roseau County employer. How about you? What's your real name and work establishment ?
