I brought home my 00 explorer 400 yesterday. Thanks for the advice. The 400 really seems to have a kick to it, seems to jump out a little quicker than my 500 although i have not really gotten on it yet (break in and double oil) Do you think that taking it easy for the one tank would really fully break it in as the owners manuel suggests? Do you think it will fare as well in the serious mud as my 500 mag?
thanks again for your input on this it made my decision making process more fun.

Congrats on your purchase, I hope you enjoy it. I would follow the manual on the break in procedure although I must confess I didn't follow it that closely when I broke mine in. The 400 seems to get better after you get a few miles on it. I guess it just loosens up a bit, Engine and driveline. The 400 has a ton of power ,I knew you would be impressed with it. One thing to watch the first 100 or so miles will be the chain the chain will break in and need adjustment quickly after that initial adjustment with it being concentric drive you should not have to adjust it to often. You also might invest in a can of Maxima Chain Wax to protect it with ,this is a great product that has performed great for me on all my chain driven machines, Jack Schultz also reccomends it. Good luck and enjoy your new purchase let us know how it works out and performs in the future. I will be buying a new machine this year for the wife to replace the aging 300 4x4 we have and this is a model that I will consider. Thanks
