I recently bought a new SP500HO. Got the dealer to throw in a warn 2000 winch. I then bought a 2500 upgrade kit. I'm going to install myself in the next few days. I was looking at the toggle switch I will be mounting on the left handlebar. It looks pretty flimsy. Is there a source you guys know of for a sturdier switch that will withstand the elements? Your help is appreciated.

If you're talking about the same toggle switch I have, it works great and it has been through hell. I have yet to have any problems with mine. It has spent several days in my truck bed (I thought I lost it), ran over with the sportsman, thrown, dropped, and used constantly. I use my winch so much I'm installing the deisel battery in series with the regular battery because it ends up draining it.

If anyone needs a switch and wants to pay for shipping, I could take care of that. I work for a switch company and can help you in that area.

Yes I have the second battery, on the sportsman it mounts directly under the tool box. I use all the diesel hardware and tool box and it works great. Don't know if it would fit there on an explorer.

uflg95 Hope you meant that you are going to paralell those batterys. If you hook them in series you will be supplying 24 volts to the winch. That could be disastous to the motor. It will retrieve very fast for awhile though. Untill the smoke starts coming from it.

Oops, typing error. The brain thought one thing the fingers typed another. Good catch, I don't want someone screwing their stuff up because I didn't type what I meant. I do have them paralell.

Hey i run a double batt set up, Man is that sweet i took out the tool box and mounted a spill proof gell cell it fits right between the frame rails and is supported with a batt tray on top of the tranny, It works great if i remember right it is a 47 amphr batt along with the 14 amphr stock batt i have plenty of power for everything i also run 6awg wire on my winch and 4 awg on my batt cables. i now use a peice of 4" schedual 40 pipe 2' long with end caps for a tool box i can really put the gear in there.

I was told by an electrician to wire mine + to - - to +. He said the added output wouldn't hurt anything electrical. I still have'nt did it yet though. What do you guys think? I run a lot of stuff off my atv.

If you hook up 2 batteried that way you will wind up with 24 volts. Not good. It has to be done + to + to ATV electrical system, - to - to ground. That's 12 volts in paralell. The way the guy told you to hook it up will smoke your entire electrical system.
