In the current issue of ATV Sport (02/00) they feature an article on a hopped-up Scrambler 500.

Although I have no plans for the '00 New Year's, I'm in the fetal stages of planning a trip to Glamis for the '01 celebration. What does this have to do with a Scrambler 500?

In the article the OEM lights were replaced with a set of 75W PIAA's, mounted in a Ricky Stator bracket. Seeing as how I have removed the puiny 'lil (50W?)light that comes stock on Sport's, via a 500 hood, I have no means of riding at night (would'nt it be a shame to get all the way out to Glamis and be limited to "daytime driving"?).

The article stated that the Polaris stator is good for up to 250 watts, more than enough to run the 75W's. Is that true for the 400's? And, if so are dual 100's beyond the limits of a 250W stator?

FYI: I've already called Ricky Stator about the kit, and was told that he was'nt happy with the way it turned out. Apparently it was a rush job to make the printing deadline, and he is currently working on "cleaning" it up a bit. Being based in So. Cal. they are'nt too many Polaris' out his way, and he is having trouble finding one to use for measurement puproses. He said if I lived close to his shop he'd make the bracket for free! Danm the luck. He also said that the lights plug directly into the OEM harness, again, is there a differance in the connectors from the 500 to the 400 (reffering to 99's)?

Well, I am still waiting for the issue, I am not happy. I have called & e-mailed. Oh well.

As far as the lights, I can't wait to see them. I want brighter lights! The stock Scrambler lights have a high/low beam and wiring for it, and they also have dual lights each with their own connectors leading to them that unplug right at the light, I like it. I haven't even looked at a 400 light to compare them. I think the 400 puts out 150wt's but I am not positive.

By the way, I don't have the issue, but I think the model they used was a '97. It had different wiring harness and all completely different wiring, so I wonder if the kit would work on the '99's as well.

How much did he say it would cost, if he had it?

According to the shop manual 150 watts is correct for the 400s 250 for the 500s.

BigD: I dont have the 400 hood with the single light. It's been scrapped and replaced with a 500 hood, so I have no lights at all.

So with the 150W stator a pair of 75's would be pushing it? Could a 250W from a '99 500 be used on a 400, or would it be best/cheaper to have mine re-wound, if possible?

Are the stators the same for the 400 Sport/Scrambler ('99)? Worst case could a light kit from a '99 Scrambler be used on a '99 Sport? What is the out-put on those?

Please, somebody shed some light on this subject.

400's only put out 150W. i was wondering that too because i have a scrambler 400 and was thinking about putting hand warmers and brighter lights on it. i saw replacement bulbs on here, i thinking they were those crazy blue lights like they have some of the new cars. i tell you what, they suck when you are looking at them. they seem real bright. i forget where i saw them on here, but they are supposed to be alot brighter then the hallogens while using the same wattage. so, depending on what size wattage you were able to put in the hood light, maybe 1/75 watt might do the trick.
