i need to know if i can put two pilot fog lights on my scrambler. they are 55 watts, 15 amp. will the 150w alternator power these? i figure there is 60w lighting already, don't know what the electric fan pulls, and the little stuff like the reverse and neutral light, plus your engine power. can i add these lights without having a problem. will it be too much draw on the alternator? they would look cool right on the front of the frame between the fenders. hurry, i want to put these on and have some serious night lighting.

BigD: I'm in the same predicament as you. I have replaced the hood on my Sport with one from a 500. I removed my oil injection and thought the hole looked awkward. Now I dont have any lights at all. Thats not a big deal in of itself, because I never ride at night. But, as I'm planning a trip to Glamis this year, lights are going to be a must have.

After looking into this the stator on the 400's is 150W, while the 500 has a 250W. I'm assuming that the 500 stator is compatable with the 400, but have'nt 'gotten a price on one yet. It may be chaeper to have the 150W re-wound by Ricky Stator to at least 200W.

He's currently working on a light kit for Polaris, using dual 75W 6" Piaa's. I've learned that the Piaa's are not sealed, and his Aluminators are probably a better buy, mostly because they are sealed and take up less space. He has a dual set 75W thar mount to the bar clamp. I'm hoping to call him this week and get some more details on the issue, as far as they're compatability with Polaris ATV's. I'll let you know what I come up with.

Goto "http://www.rickystator.com/Lights.html" to see some of the applications and pricing.

Why isn't the hyperlink working ?

Bigdevil,

Check out my page and look at the lights on my Sport. The lights are on either side of the radiator housing (although you can only see one in the picture). They are probably the same thing you want on yours.

In answer your query, yes they will work with the 150 watt alternator, but not in conjunction with the stock lights. If you are going to run both, can I make a suggestion? Use the stock lights for low beam, and the aftermarket ones for high beam.

The projection lights have a fairly narrow beam width which makes them perfect for high beam applications. The lights project a wide verticle beam that has no need for aiming up and down. With both lights working you can adjust them independantly from side to side to get a fairly wide field of view at night.

Hope this helps!

Mike...
If your referring to the thing I see next to your reflector, I can barely make it out. What wattage bulb are you using?

Have you seen the "faster polaris" page? He has some mounted to the top part of his DG bumper. It looks kinda trick.

Did you just tap the new lights into your lighting harness?

Pick up a copy of 02/99 ATV Sport and check out the Scrambler 500 article.

well, i put the new fog lamps on, they look cool, i mounted them right on top of the frame rail right between where the fenders indent. like i said, they look cool, but thats about all. they come off as soon as i can get around to it. went out for a day of riding today, it was 55 degrees here after a 20 degree week last week. you want to talk about mud!!! well, needless to say, the lights didn't hold up to the test, i blew one of them out already. junk!!! i guess they aren't made for offroad use. so back to the store they go. does anyone know where i can get replacement bulbs for my headlamps? i guess they are 30/30 watss now. does that mean that they are 30w a side? i didn't have a problem with running both lights at the same time. i called the polaris dealer and they told me that i could run both lights no problem. i would like to try to get maybe 2/50watt bulbs or even 60w bulhbs for the headlamps. does anyone make brighter replacement bulbs? can you put brighter bulbs in?

I have some pretty bright (120,000 candlepower of light) lights on my scrambler 500. They don't say how many watts but I know you could get these to work. I have had them very wet and muddy with no problems. They are the MOOSE Utility Division Halogen Light Kit from Dennis Kirk (800)328-9280 part#21-996 in the 99 dirt bike &atv catalog.

Price $34.95 Everybody that has seen these loves em and they are at least twice as bright as the stock lights. I mounted them to the front fenders and they can take some abuse. I somehow must have hit a hidden NOS switch when riding through a creek yesterday cause my scrambler shot out of the ditch and in the air about 3 ft off of the ground sideways and landed right on me and the side of the atv. It knocked the tire 2inches off of the bead but never lost air and it only bent my light bracket alittle and it landed right on it. The lights work great but you can't have them on riding down the side of the road because they are too bright and blind all of the cars. Check them out on my pics page, BTW they are very easy to install.
