Ok... Here is a great summer question. :-)

Ok guys, I would like your opinion on this one. The wife and I have just purchased a home and are concerned allready about the winter as far as snow goes. We currently have 2 quads. One is a 400 4x4 Scrambler and the other being a 325 Trail Boss. Now the question... Where we are moving to has questionable road maintenence. Are either of these any good at plowing? We are talking a pretty good stretch of road here. Not just a driveway. The Scrambler I would think would be ok, but I worry about only having high range. The Trail Boss, well it's a Trail Boss. Would I be better off trading it for an Xplorer? I am seriously considering doing just that, but purchasing this home left very little cash reserves if ya know what I mean. Anyone have experience plowing with the Scram? Thanks for all the replys... I know most of you don't want to think about the winter yet, but with this heat around Philadelphia, man I can't wait. Thanks again.

Brian,
you have reason to be concerned with no LOW RANGE.In the heavy snow, this plowing is hard on belts that dont have a low range to help out.I have a 400cc 4x4 2000 model Xplorer and it is AWESUME plowing snow.I had no problems pushing 15 inches of fresh snow this past December 13th.My driveway is around 100ft long to.After mine,I plowed alot of the neighborhood to.
If the snowfall is not to huge in your neck of the woods, than perhaps you can get away with plowing with the Scrambler and High range?ANYBODY?

Living in the general area I can tell you philly does not get alot of snow. Big storms around here are 6-12 inches, but we don't get them all that often. I think you should be OK plowing with your scram, and if we do get a big storm try to plow before we get to 6 inches, yeh you may have to do it twice but it's cheaper than buying a new atv.

I had a plow on my Honda 300 4x4 and it worked good in a few inches of snow I found that to do it effectivly required multiple runs, I could not let it get to ahead of me. Not sure about the high range? plowing might get hard on the belt, snow can get heavy. I found actually a snowblower was more effective, could sleep in and snowblow in the morning. But if I was going to plow again I would have to have sometihng like the Xplorer 400 or a SP, just for the weight factor, which helps big time when plowing and of course the low range. But then again we can get 20 inches of snow in a storm or more.

Hey Bubba....
We are in Phila now, but plan to move to upstate Pa.... The winters up there are a bit harsher usually then down here. However you are right, they still aren't that bad.
I was thinking of the snow blower route, I dunno about doing the whole street with a blower.... Would probably work better than with the quad, but it's a whole lot harder. :-)
