No, not 100%. In 1994 they made a quad called just 400L. They made it in 2x4 and 4x4. The Sport 400L was a totally different quad (same engine obviously). If you could get it for $1500 it wouldn't be a bad deal. It's hard to get any quad that cheap (at least where I'm from). However if the quad is in excellent mechanical shape it could be worth $2000 depending on the price of other quads in your area. Sorry, I didn't notice the plow part when I first posted. MainRider has a good point.

A year ago I bought a 96 Sport for my son. It looked great the only mod was 8" rear rims and a chain tensioner. He rode it for about 2 months and it had a complete melt down. Turns out the piston skirt broke. I now know this is a common problem on older 2 strokes. The guy who owned it must have kept honing and replacing pistons cause it was stock bore too. Have had a few problems mostly because a 17 year old rides it and he thinks he can keep up with dad. Now I have to replace the throttle cable cause the oil pump wont return all the way. First I have to remember the combo to the safe where I keep the gold plated cable............

Yeah, old 2-strokes sometimes need a freshening up. However, I would much rather rebuild one of them then rebuild a 4-stroke. It's always a gamble when you are buying used. Though you can usually tell if a quad has had a rough life by looking at it. I bought my '98 Sport a year ago from a good friend that I knew took care of it. I'm still on the stock Piston with no problems yet. I don't really abuse it, but I ride it good and hard whenever I take it out. Who knows, it could blow up tomorrow, or it could go for a while.
MaineRider, your son has a hard time keeping up with you? I thought the 400 and 500 were pretty close (about dead even) stock for stock?
Talk to ya later!

Yes like the others have said it is a 2 stroke. I wouldn't be very worried about it blowing up very much i have a 95 400 2x4 and it has over 9000 miles on it and about 8500 have been put on since the spring of 98 and it does not get winter ridden. The only money we have had to put into the engine is 2 new spark plugs that is it, and it will still kick my friends Xplorer in a race!!!!!!!!
