I need to remove my gearbox, I have all the bolts out that need to be taken out per polaris service manual.I am up to the last step before removal which is taking the recoil off. THe manual states: remove recoil... remove 4 6mm bolts, funny because their are nine bolts.Next ? is, do you remove just the recoil housing or do you remove both recoil housing and the fly wheel housing as one unit.Keep in mind that the manual only states "remove recoil" should it have stated recoil housing? My mechanic ablility on a scale of 1-5, 5 being great, is about a 3. I am trying to use common sense on the matter but, that that would have me taking the exhaust off and leaving the the recoil on to remove the tranny. Any experience would be much appreciated.

seeing how no one was able to answer my ? I will reply with the answer. There are 9 10mm bolts from the recoil housing that need to come out and then remove the recoil housing, which the manual failed to mention. Then you have to take the exhaust off in order for the gearbox to have the clearence to be pulled out, again the manual failed to mention.Like some people have mentioned on this forum, you really dont need a service manual, all you really need is the free parts manual and a bit of common sense.Take it from me, I'm no ace mechanic! Think I'll return the manual and get my money back.
