I have tried the Polaris standard two stroke oil and Phillips 66 Injex in my Sportsman 400 with satisfactory results. But, I am looking for an oil that smokes less with less odor, does anybody have any suggestions?

I recently tried the Quaker State Itasca Synthetic oil but found that it smokes more than the other two mentioned. What has worked for you?

Have you tried the Polaris synthetic 2-stroke gold? I have little or no smoke from my 400 explorer when I use it. It's a bit on the pricey side, $26.99 a gallon but mine doesn't use much and it's what they recommended at the dealer.

Be careful running cheap oils! I have been working on outboard motors for years and that normally is a contributing factor when two-stroke outboards fail-cheap mixing oil. Polaris Gold works for me.

No I haven't tried the Polaris Gold yet.

Weedy, do you remember what oils were used when the outboards failed?

I hear a lot of talk about AMSOIL but am not familiar with it.

I also use synthetic gold and have very little smoke. From the way the dealer explained there is a difference in synthetics and regular oil as far as how the injector is set,be careful. This is my first two stroke so I don't completely understand the whole oil injection set up.

I use the Polaris Gold also, smokes only a little bit while warming up. After the bike warms up, It only gives a very little puff of smoke once in a while, bike isn't running lean either.

Does the Polaris Gold have a mild odor?

I am about to buy a new Scrambler 400. My question is, is it safe or recommended to run synthetic oil during the break-in period? I know that for 4 stroke engines you aren't supposed to run synthetic in them at first, so that they can wear a little at first to get all of the parts "acquainted" with each other. Does this hold true with 2 strokes at all?
Thanks guys!

When you buy your new Polaris, it comes filled with regular oil, plus, the tank of gas it comes with is pre-mixed with oil so everything gets nice and lubed up from the start. You can start adding the synthetics after a tank or two of gas.
