HPD Roller Clutch - Installation tips??
#11
Skidkid,
I have read on this forum the comment that the roller clutch didn't perform well in mud, and I was just wondering if you have noticed any difference. It doesn't make sense to me that it wouldn't work well in the mud, and that it would all depend more on how you set the tension on the secondary spring----for quicker upshift or quicker backshift. Anyway, any info you have is really appreciated.

I was through several mud holes and if anything the roller made it better. It gets the wheel speed up and quick, I can't see how that would hurt in a mudhole. There were alot of hills that you had to climb from almost a dead stop at the bottom and the the difference from stock to roller was very noticable. Also when downhilling the clutch stays engaged alot longer.

Skidkid,
That's pretty cool. I did get to take mine for a couple little runs, but it was on pavement, and real short distances. I look forward to getting to play in the mud soon. Some of the guys I ride with absolutely run in every mudhole that we come to, so I should get the chance pretty soon. Anyway, thanks for the response. If I ever get that bogging thing figured out, I'll let you know. I've even thought about building an exhaust snorkel out of PVC (just to try it out in a mudhole to see if that's the problem). Since the muffler on the 2-stroke doesn't get so hot, it shouldn't melt the stuff for a short trial. Please do the same and keep me posted if you figure out the problem. Thanks.
