I will be putting one in my wifes 400 explorer to it needs alittle more zip of the bottom when running 26 " vampires and steel rims. try heavier weights in your primary clutch it will make your initial hit harder and with more force on the belt and less slippage.

I've read on this thread where people will put in the green spring then add bigger weights. In this case couldn't they just have put in the less aggresive white spring and stuck to their stock weights.
I was thinking of adding the green spring to mine but after reading that people had to add more weight to counteract the green spring, I thought I would use the white spring instead. This should give me the higher engagement and the slightly higher shift point I want without having to add more weight.
I will be installing my new white spring today, so I'll have to let you guys know how it works.
By the way I have a 96 300 Express. Maybe their is a difference between mine and a 500 as far as the clutching works(besides EBS).

Elroy, you get the white spring on yet? What were your results?

Just got it last night. I put it in and went for a quick ride in the dark. It definately raised my engagement RPM by about 300 or so.(don't have a tach, mine broke.) MY shifting RPM was raised just a little bit.
My reaction, Man this thing will rip up some loose gravel. Their is a gravel yard just down below my house. That is where I went last night for my test spin. That is exactly what it did, SPIN. If I'm just sitting there and then I punch it, it will just light up right now and spin for about 40 or 50 feet before it will get a good hook up. Mind you though that I have a one tooth bigger front sprocket and 25x13x10 Wooly Booger tires so I have my secondary clutch set up for a slower shift.
On hard pack it will lunge really hard for about the first 20 or 30 feet then kind of fall on its face because it is waiting to shift. I will have to up my shift rate today and see if it gets any better.
My goal is to make this thing pull really hard(or at least as hard as I can) from the bottom all the way to the top end. Not to mention that I want it to have a top speed over 60mph. It only did 50mph pure stock and it was a little embaressing. Last I knew it would run with a 500HO, so thats about 63mph or so.
When my tires start getting bald I will got back down to the stock size which is 24x11x10. Those 25x13 Wooly Boogers are really heavy. I plan on getting 24x11 Dirt Devils. Hopefully less weight and smaller tire will help my acceleration without hurting my top speed too much.
So to sum it all up for you, it made it pull harder off the start but because off my secondary clutch settings it had a slow shift. It did raise my rpm engagement and shift. Seems to put them where I want them but I have to change my shift rate for a quicker shift. I will do this today and get back with you guys.

Elroy, My Xplorer initially had a slight hesitation like you described where the clutch would hit hard, then a slight hesitation before it would upshift, then WHOOM, it shifted hard, usually breaking the tires loose again. After a few hours with the new spring, however, that tendency disappeared, don't ask me why. I imagine that when I put it together again, something must not have been exactly as it was, and needed to 'break in' or smooth up or something (a little drag in the primary clutch action that smoothed itself out you could say). I tried both the green and white spring, and preferred the white on MY machine. I have a 400 Xplorer, and the green seemed a little abrupt for delicate maneuvering, plus when trailing cows, I felt it had a higher engagement point than necessary (the quieter you can be behind a cow, the better). Also, the green spring cost me a little top speed, whereas the white did not.

(MuddyExplorer4x4)You mentioned before that your engine was running a little rich. One other thing I did a while back was put in a little better spark plug. Our machines(any Polaris 2 stroke) take a NGK BR8ES(or a B8ES all the R stands for is resistor and you don't really need it unless you have a radio installed on your quad). I used to be an Autoparts Salesman and one day I was looking through the NGK book and saw that they make more versions of our plugs(stock-----all the way up to pure racing). I tried each one of them and noticed something better each time. The very first one I noticed that the quad will start up on the very first rotation. It also seemed to accelerate just a little harder.
This is a list of the ones I tried:
stock- B8ES (or BR8ES)
1st upgrade- B8EG (I would recommend this to everyone)
2nd upgrade- B8EGV (not a whole lot of gain over 1st one)
3rd upgrade- B8EVX (this one kicks butt, not to mention its dual platinum)
These plugs do not change your heat range so they don't run any hotter or cooler. The difference with these plugs is that they have smaller electrodes and they keep getting smaller as you go up the scale. The benefit(to keep it short), is that since they electrode is smaller, the spark is intensified helping to create a better BANG. Also since the electrode is smaller the spark fires off the same spot everytime so it burns off any contaminents that get on the plug each time it fires. In theory it means that it would be harder to foul.
I am still running the B8EVX. One time I was telling someone about them and actually showed them on my quad. The guy ran my quad with the B8EVX and then ran it with the stock B8ES and he understoud then what I was talking about.
Of all the people I've had tried these plugs, the first thing people say is , "WOW, my wheeler starts right up." The second thing is ," I never realized it was hezitating."
