I was just wondering if there are any differences between them other than cosmetic. Has the 2002 been updated in any substantial ways?Suspension, motor, brakes etc.. Also, Does anyone know what the REAL dealer cost is,(including there dealer holdback that they get from the manufacturer)? I had a dealer try to tell me that it costs him 3300, but I think he is a liar, because I found a dealer in Alabama that is selling 2001 models for $2999 + tax. They would not sell at a loss but maybe closer to cost. How could I find out anyway? Not to be a polaris basher, but I really wouldn't even be looking if it weren't for the fact that this is the only bike my wife likes, so I want to get the best deal possible and with the economy really slow right now I feel like I should get a good deal or I will drive to Alabama. I have owned 2 Sport 400L's (94 and 96)before and they were not reliable at all. I have heard that Polaris has improved there quality some and so I hope it will hold up fairly well for her. Anyways, Thanks for any help, I will be buying soon.

Purely cosmetic differences. If you can get one cheap get the 2001. (Be sure to get an out the door price when you see a dealer ad with really low price, they usually have hidden costs which can add up to hundreds of dollars.) It does help to have a local dealer though if you run into trouble. I only had a few minor problems with mine. The front sprocket was soft and wore out quick ($15) as well as rear brakes same story ($35). I ride a lot in mud and sand and water which is hard on both things. It was the most comfortable atv I have ever ridden. If it jumped and wheelied better I would still own it. I miss the cushy ride.
