I have a 99 SP My dealer told me that if you put in HD springs that it would help the steering from being so hard on side hills. Those of you that have installed these springs is this true?

Personally, I thought it felt FASTER. I think less movement in the suspension = more to the ground.

Didn't get much of a changce on familiar roads, PLUS I havent ridden since spring.

I also did a mod that I THINK will have my speedo much more accurate with the big tires, but didnt verify yet.

Kit works real well. Seems to hook better, and cause less heat.

Yes it is for the larger tires. I used the lighter (orange I believe) of the two primary springs provided.

In low it will wheelie over backwards if the tires hook and the belt is cool.

just ordered a pair from Lawn & Leisure in Athens, TN and they were $24.95 a piece. Someone just posted some step by step pictures in in the polaris forum at atv time . com (Leave out the spaces if you go to the website, it is a forbidden word in this forum. What a mature thing to do!!!!!!!!!!) showing exactly how to do the job. Actually, I think that person also posted the pictures at this forum, but under one of the other hd springs threads. Just search "springs" and you can find it if you are interested.

Price sounds about right. I have a "jobber discount and paid a bunch less so I dont recall the list price.

Wish I'd have seen the pics before, it would have saved me some time.

Basically no different than changing shocks so I won't get into the shock/spring R&R, but you must pull the brake caliper, and the wheel hubs to get enough droop to remove.

Be sure to clean the area very well before disassembling, and some spare seals aren't abad idea! I use Silicone dielectric grease on my seal lips 'cause it won't wash or melt out.

Be very careful with the armature plate (flat washer with 3 "dogs" so it doesn't fall out of place. A slight bend will result in sticky (on) hubs.

A little tip to save some minutes. You do not need to remove the caliper. All you need to do is compress the front suspension before you begin and put straps around the spring to keep it compressed. Loosen the top support and lift the sprins up over (you will also need to compress the strut with your hands for an extra inch or so) , with the straps they will be short enough to be removed. The HD springs are short enough themselves to be put on. I have put several sets on and have never had to remove anything but the top strut mount nut.

I'm looking through a parts book under Polaris suspension springs, and I don't see a HD spring for the 500Sp. just the standard spring. The standard spring rate= 100lbs per 1" and the Heavey Duty= 140lbs per 1" rate, why earlier in this thread did someone say the 100lbs per 1" was correct rate for the HD? Is this just the standard spring for the 2000 Sp 500?
Here's the link to the parts I was looking at Springs ATV Suspension Scroll down to "S"
