ran a prairie 650

I agree that the big tires make a huge difference. I races 3 Grizzly 660's a few weeks ago. They all had 27" tires. My Rubicon beat them by 3-4 lenghts in a 100 yard drag. The only way to really have a fair comparison is if you have stock tires. I believe the larger tires effect different quads differently. The 650 will pull 27" tires much better than the 660. I am not talking about the mud either... I am talking about a drag race. The 650 is gear better to accomodate the larger tires, and I think it puts out alot more torque.
As far as an Explorer 400 out running a 650, stock VS stock, it is dot going to happen, but it will be closer than most think. A stock 650 will outrun a slightly modified 400EX. However, an Explorer that has been modified properly will eat a stcok 650 for lunch. 2 Strokes have more potential if you are willing to spend the money. I had a modifed SC400 4X4 a few weeks ago, and if that bike were to beat a 650, I would have been surprised.

a 400 Xplorer is a faster than a Sportsman 500 HO, all the way through and on top end, this is after numerous grass drags and back road races. It would not surprise me at all if a 400 Xplorer would keep up with if not take the 650 Kawasaki. The 650's I have road with were not that fast. Faster than my 500 for sure. but the 400 xplorer is quite fast. But then again straight line racing for one is boring and 2 is not the true test of a 4x4. I already know how my SP fairs against the 650 in the woods. And being faster didn't help it at all, though a Warn winch did.

I raced my friend Jeffs brand new 02 660 Grizz this past wk end.He took about a 5 quad lead to about 50mph,than he stopped gaining on me and I could'nt catch him either. We never did top out.
Oversized tires will EAT up power,I have 26 inch GoodYear Mudrunners on my slightly modded Xplorer and wondered how I'd of done with the stock tires? The Grizz is certainly as fast as I'll ever need a quad to go though, and the ride is EXCELLANT!

I have a 650 Prairie, and I know am faster than a 2001 400 Explorer. Walexa will atest to that because it belongs to him. We did not race or any thing because he did not want to but I am sure the next time we ride we will. I also let him ride it and he said it was faster. You would have to ask him want modifications he has on the bike.
