IT'S NOT WORKING! This is frustrating. Why do the simple tasks always turn into the worst nightmares? I'm no mechanic but I'm not an idiot either. I've tried YANKING, PULLING, PRYING, PINCHING and I still can't get the shaft of the bike or the CV joint apart. Why me? What could I possibly be doing wrong?

...HELP....

Keep in mind that the joint is held onto the shaft by a little snap ring. It is hard to find because it is small, and covered with grease. Pull the old boot back from where the joint and axle connect, dig through the grease, and you should find it. You will want to pry the ends of the snap ring apart, and the axle should pull loose from the joint. If you don't have snap ring pliers, a small flat blade screwdriver works, SOMETIMES.
When putting it together, be sure the snap ring locks everything back together tight, then put the boot on all the way, & tighten it up.

Good luck.

YEAH,What Farmer said.
I just used a screwdriver to wedge it apart.
It's a pain in the *** the first time but once it comes apart you'll say ....OH YEEEAAAH.
Just fiddle with that snapring.
I had to walk away and come back when I calmed down some.
