New Pics...AKA 15 sec. of fame

The thin film battery can be purchased from a co. called X-static. 334-702-7649. It only weighs 2.5 lbs. and easily relocates along with the starter solenoid up under your front plastic. You can even reach with the stock wires. It does cost around $100, but I have had this thing on almost a year, with some pretty serious trail and racing.....never left me dry yet. They claim you can charge it up, and leave it on a shelf for 3 years, and it will still be fully charged. It easily cranks the HPD 14.5:1 setup I have.
Thanks for the complements.

By the way, the battery is mounted in the valley after you remove your oil injection tank. The solenoid is bolted to the steering support tower on the RH side (viewed as you're sitting on the quad). The battery can be mounted in any position. I use one jumbo zip tie, tensioned with a zip tie gun to hold it in place.
Good Luck,

modquad,
I finally picked up my Dec issue of ATV Sport. I was expecting just a picture and some specs. Geez, they did a whole article on it! That's great! If at any time they are in Pennsylvania, I'll let 'em ride mine. I do think that the headlight setup on yours is sharp, I'll have to try it on mine (giving you full credit, of course).
Still, I didn't care for them ripping on your quad as far as the clutching and handling is concerned. Hey, we're just guys putting the things together with what we have (limited funds), give us a break! None of us are claiming to be the next Barry Hawk, these are just recreational machines, not racers. We don't have the unlimited resources that the sponsered racers do. They could have said that the handling is head and shoulders above the stock Sport and that it easily puts the "smack down" on a stock anything as far as engine performance goes.
Still all in all a good article!

Thanks for the comments Mike. Barry Hawk....yea, I beat him (the previous dream was sponsored by dream quadders of America) I was just lucky because their offices a only 15 min away. We did the photo shoot the day after the WTC tragedy...crystal blue skies w/ F-16's flying cover...really wierd. By the way, those lights are $14.95 Walmart specials....I mean, $50 available through me lol. I've got a set of Moose offroad lights I'm gonna try next, but they're going back up front ($34.95 through Dennis Kirk). Don't do much night woods runs anyway, I have enough trouble with wildlife and oak trees.

modquad,
I know we got off to rocky start but, I just bought the magazine to see your article. I am impressed. I really like the all black look.
It says that their mechanic was suggesting clutch ideas. Do you mind telling me what he had said? I've often wondered why an ATV magazine never did a good article on ATV clutching.

The mag guys wanted to play with the wts and primary spring. Darrell(HPD) had dialed it in just prior to the test, and noted some mods needed for a future primary spring. I am currently VERY happy with the clutching for trail ripping. The minor tweaking would probably only satisfy a flatter dyno pull. The only problem I'm going to address is to find something better than the ITP holeshots at harnessing the HP his components deliver. I'm not bragging, just complementing the HPD crew because this thing cuts tire life-expectancy way down, but lifts the giggle factor WAY up. Really the treads aren't that bad, just want to try some different treads. Thanks again for the complements. There is a song by a band called Blur.....maybe you've heard it WOOOOHOOOO!!!!!
