Well i went and bought the purolator 4622 which i read in a thread was a crossover, but when i put it on i noticed it left a bit of a gap between the housing and the filter which will make it leak. I tried putting it on as tight as i could, ended up denting the filter pretty bad. Anyone else tried one of these purolators? I hear the frams arent very good. Anyone else tried one that really works?

I went to a parts store and had them cross referance the Polaris filter numbers with a cheaper priced filter. They had a Fram motorcycle filter that would fit perfectly, but I noticed it to be lighter in weight. With further inspection I noticed the Polaris filter had a spring loaded valve of some sort inside that the fram didn't have. I believe that the valve inside the polaris filter is there to hold oil in the filter when the engine is not running. I took the frame filter back and bought another Polaris filter.Never tried any other filters, thought I better use what it came with.

Wix 51358, or Napa 1358.......these are 2 of the best filters made for the sp500, and you can get them for $5 to $7. I used them on my '99 SP500.

For you Amsoil guys, I would have to check my shelves in the shop but I believe the Amsoil filter is SDF13. The plain Fram filter has no drain back valve. NAPA does make a good filter.

Are you looking for another brand of filter for the price, or are you far from your Polaris dealer?

If it's price, I why would you try to save 2-5 bucks and risk engine damage.

The Polaris filter sells for only $7.00 or so and that sounds like a deal to have the correct filter.

If your polaris dealer is far from your home, Save up a few bucks and go to him and buy 4 or 5 filters. Put them on your shelf now you have about a years supply.
