how much power does a raptor or ds have? My 400L was dynoed at 58 hp at 7500. can a ds or raptor stand up to that, and can your wife or girlfriend still ride your machine without killing it or tearing stuff up? Polaris is the most rider friendly machine and mine had the mods to tear up a raptor or ds. (take off)

Welp, I don't know If I got a good machine or not. I'm 15 years old, and have a 2001 scrambler 400 That I bought with my own money in September. I had ridden my neighbor's express 400L for a long time, and liked the fast hard pull of the polaris two-stroke. So far I've had to get a new chain, a new PVT belt, a full transmission rebuild, a new tire, swingarm bushings, and now my left wheel and hub is shot. Besides that I have loved the power, and have put mods on mine. NONE of the problems are resulted from my mods. And my dealer took care of all the problems at no charge. I do a lot of maintanence on my machine, and like to work on it when I'm bored. Overall I'm pretty happy about my machine.

I am also looking for a new rear scrambler wheel hub (see above) and a set of wheels in fair condition that will fit the stock titan 489's. I also am looking for a Tach, DG bumper, chain tensioner, and a lot of other stuff if anybody has stuff collecting dust. Thanks, and Happy Quaddin'

Sportsmanfan1,
Go to the 'Bomb forum & speak with Knutz. He sells 703 & 760 kits for the DS. I was thinking HP was in the 75hp range. I had a slightly modded Scrambler 400 too. It would outrun Banshee's until about 40mph or so. After that it was all over with, mid & top was no fight on the Polaris. But when you can buy a stock Raptor or DS that will outrun a modded Polaris it just didn't make sense to me to keep pouring money into the Polaris. I simply outgrew it. It's not true that a 4 stroke won't make power. Yes it costs more money, but 686, 720 Raptors & 703 & 760 (and maybe a 830) DS will beat alot of quads.
I like Polaris, but after owning a DS there is no comparison. If the rumor mill is true hopefully the new Polaris sportquad will be well suspended & lightweight, plus be responsive to mods, albiet 4 stroke ones...

SPORTSMANFAN1
ken in minnesota has the fastest full race hpd 400 ive ever seen !! was even featured in the atv magazine. probly has 30 grand into it . my 450 ex smokes it .as will my raptor . ken tryed racing it at a hare scramble and ,not to dis ken ,I lapped him on a 9 mile course.

and to the comment on cost of rebuilding a two stroke compared to a four stroke? OMG have you seen the price tag on the power valve big bore kits??? I think there real close to even on the dollar .

Well my point is for the money , if you want a sport quad ,dont shop polarass.

p.s. as to the comment on a ds being reliable (my rib's still hert from laughing)

BIGGY, if you lapped that Polaris, then the rider didn't know what the hell he was doing on that machine. My best friends have a 400ex and a Raptor. My Scrambler beats a 400ex, and the Raptor smokes both of us. But it can have a lot to do with a rider. If he stuck 30 grand into a quad, it better drive itself, cause I can't think of enough mods to cost that much!

True, the rider is a big player in what can beat what. Point in case, one of my friends has a SC400 '99 4x4 (stock), another good friend of mine has a '00 400EX, the EX will beat the SC400. Each and everytime by about 5 lengths. Granted this is a 300' race, so top end does not seem to come into play. I don't see stock for stock a SC400 4x4 outrunning a 400ex in a drag race. Of course the rider has a great deal to do with that.
