Disconnect reverse and 4wd overide
#22
DAVEB,
Your 96 Scrambler should be the same as my 95. Under the oil cap, under the hood is where you should disconnect the wires. The rev limiter override and the 4x4 are two different wires. Are you having trouble with your 4x4? In reverse, do you have to push the override button to have 4x4 while in reverse? Let me know and we can go from there!

The rev limiter is obviously hooped in my unit (a few too many submergings in muskeg I think..LOL) and we're forever getting stuck and rippin' on it in reverse to get out....sooo, I started poping wires off under the "hood" until the rev-limiter stopped working. I can't remember what color, but only one wire is disconnected. My question is (since its winter here and the quad hasn't moved for 3 months) with the rev limiter disconnected, does the 4x4 still engage in reverse? Or do I need to perform some creative wiring as outlined in previous posts?

DaveB,
In addition to the wire you removed, I believe to get the 4x4 to work in reverse without having to push the override button, you need to supply power to the gray/white wire. You can splice into it and jumper it over to a constant power supply. I believe there's some red wires that go into a flat-style female terminal that supply constant power while the bike's ignition is turned on. That is where I plugged mine into. With the 4x4 switch turned off, you won't get 4x4........forward or reverse, and with it on, you will have 4x4 constantly in forward or reverse.......without pushing the yellow button. Mine is done this way, and the only problem I have is that it sometimes wants to keep a hub engaged after driving in reverse 4x4, unless you turn the 4x4 off while still moving in reverse, then change to forward. Hope this isn't too confusing.
