maximus,
I have not used the cool head, so cannot comment on if it works any better or not than stock. I don't think it is supposed to help cool the engine better.........rather provide concentric water flow through the head, thus preventing hot spots in the head. None of this info is from experience, just explanations I've read.
What I've used and it seems to really help is the super cool radiator additive from Advance Auto Parts at the junction of Thomas Rd & New Natchitoches. I think it was about $25/quart, but riding in this cooler weather, my fan only cycles on once or twice per ride. I have a digital temp guage, and it seems to have kept the engine operating temperature about 20 degrees cooler than normal. This is for my machine, which has the same 400 engine, so your results may be similar. I added 1/2 a quart to the cooling system and filled it the rest of the way with Polaris coolant. I also have the high compression head, which produces more heat.

I also tried it in my sp500, and didn't notice much of an improvement in cooling. However, with the 2-stroke, there is no thermostat, and it seems to be working alot better than with my sp500. How it does in the summer months, I don't know, but my cooling fan used to cycle alot more in this cold weather than it does with the super cool. For summer months, you could even get by with just distilled water and the super cool. I might have to try that this summer. I went to your website, and your bike looks real cool. Did you paint the plastic, or order it that way? Any word from Gary yet on when your bike will be back together? If it wears out quick again, I would suspect 1 of 2 things: your air filtering system is leaking dirt/dust by, or else getting water in the motor and the oil injection not lubricating quickly enough. If you still insist on running the injection and do happen to drown it out, you could get pulled back to the truck, make up some pre-mix, and pour it into the intake ports with the drain plug removed. This would oil everything back up, and flush any water/mud out of the lower case as well. Just a thought.

i got the plastic off of three different bikes. trail boss, magnum 425, explore 400. i talked to gary today. he is trying to get in touch with glenn cur. he is the one doing the bore job. he talked like it would be a fast turn around, if i can just get it to garys house. i will have to try super cool. sounds like it might work for me in my 2 stroke. what if i keep oil injection system but just put some oil in gas tank. think that will work. i am not totaly against taking of injection system.

Sometimes I miss the simplicity of the oil injection, but when I had it, water and crud kept getting in the oil injection housing. It wasn't actually contaminating the oil, but it was corroding the externals of the oil pump. Eventually, I think cable that operates the oil injector corroded up some, and made my throttle pull get harder, and it didn't want to return quickly. That along with a little more peace of mind made me get rid of it. Throttle pull is like cutting butter with a hot knife now, and premixing isn't that much harder. The oil I use, Amsoil 100:1, comes in little 8 oz bottles, and I just mix one bottle to 5 gallons. This ends up being 80:1, which is what Amsoil recommended for my bike for extra protection. I have not fouled a plug yet, and it runs/idles about the same as with the injection. It puts out more smoke at idle and low rpms, but not that bad. This has kinda gone around your question about adding a little oil to your gas, but I'm not sure how to answer that. I guess it's best to do what you are most comfortable with. If you do decide to remove the injection, Hot Seat has the best plate to cover up the hole left by the removal of the injector. I tried HPD's, but it was a large plate, and I could not get it to quit leaking. Hot Seat's plate is small, and bolts right over the hole. You would also have to replace the split throttle cable with a single cable. When I did it, I made my oil reservoir into my fuel reserve. I now have 4.5 gallon fuel capacity instead of 4.
