I don't really know which ones would be best. I have always used Polaris sprockets until now. Now I am running a Sunstar front 13 and the rear one is another different brand rear 30. I haven't got to ride it yet so I don't know how they will last or even if they will be staying on.

Mike,

Done anymore riding on yours since you went to the 13/30 ratio? What would you guess your top end at? I'm worried it may be too low of a ratio for mine. I want that top end but I don't know how well it will pull it on the bottom end. As long as it doesn't get any worse on the bottom I will be happy. With the new mods, I hope to be able to pull about the same acceleration but have alot more top end. Regarless, if it is too low, all I should have to do is put a 12 on the front and that should put me at about the same ratio again. It will actually be just slightly lower than what I had. I should be able to change to the 12 without having to change my chain size.

I do know that the smaller the sprocket, the faster you'll go through chains. I guess that will have to be the sacrifice for the ratio that I want.

I should also add to this, make sure you're swing arm bushings and axle housing bearings are good and tight. If these have play in them you won't get near the life out of the chain and sprockets. If you are dealing with non-concentric machines then you have to keep the chain adjusted properly. Alot of times it depends more on riding style and the machine of course. I have to keep mine slightly looser than it should be in order to keep the suspension from stretching it.

elroy,

From what I gathered when I rode it last, I didn't lose much if any low end. It will still creep around slowly at low throttle settings. I imagine it will change as I ride it some more and ride it in tight places. Still it does control the rampant wheelspin of the 3" longer swingarm on full power takeoffs. As far as top end goes, it seems a lot faster than it was, but that could be because I haven't rode it since last fall.

Rockey,

I've found on the CVT machines that the higher gear ratio you go, the more wheelspin you get. Low end isn't much of a problem with CVT machines as long as stock porting is maintained. Once you get either a mid or top end port job the low end power vanishes. It is replaced by a tremendous midrange rush as the motor "comes on the pipe". The machine is still ridable at low speeds however, by bliping the throttle and keeping the throttle settings low, you can creep around at low speeds quite well. Probably not as good as the linear power delivery of the stock ported machines, but if you have your suspension set right you can fly over a lot of stuff you used to have to creep over.
