Sportsman 700 Noise In Transmission

Thor,
Come on in, the water is nice and warm.
I never ask a question about age. At 45 years of age maybe I should go back to highschool to learn how to spell I do not work for a competitive line of ATVs. After spending $7300.00 hard earned dollars, I want to make sure my dealer is not blowing smoke up my #*@ when he tells me the noise is normal. These guys have only been ATV dealers for 3 months and seem to be learning as they go. I have had a lot more problems than most with my new 700, but if they can keep me happy, I will buy a 2nd one for the wife (as long as she does her on maintance )

If you are referring to the cling, clang and bang noises while off the throttle and going over bumps, then the answer is yes. Mine and all of my friends SP700s make these same noises. Polaris customer service says the SP700 is built like a truck and it is just gear backlash and is normal.

I noticed these noises also and I'm glad to hear it's not an isolated thing. I have placed my 700 in neutral, cut off the engine, and let it coast downhill and it made a lot of noise. If they say it is normal then so be it, but I could only imagine the amount of noise created if one had to be towed at 30 mph. Also on mine when I shift into high range there is a pretty sharp pop when I first get on the throttle. It will occassionally do this in low and reverse. I was told this is normal just as the other noises, so is anybody else experiencing this? Other than these things this 4-wheeler has been 100% trouble free with 334 miles to date.

Same here on the clunk noise. My dealer picked mine up yesterday for service work (backfire and idle problems) and to install a winch. Going to put this puppy to work.

NO transmission noise in my SP700, YET. Mine does make the clunking noise though. If you listen closely and go slow, right after the initial clunk, it will do it again, only not as loud. Had a 2000 SP500 that did the same thing. Coolant leak, fuel leak and I no longer had to depress the foot brake to shift in to HI or park. Shifter has started working again. Dealer said he put some grease on the foot brake shaft and that solved the problem??? I rode the machine about 12 miles and the coolant went back down from max to min again. Topped it off again but have not had a chance to see if it goes down again. May be purging it self of air again or it may still be leaking. We will see.

hausdog,
It sounds like the rubber piece that connects the carburetor to the head may be cracked. This happened to a friend's SP700 and I have seen other posts on this problem. Your dealer should be aware of this problem. It is easy to locate after removing the right side body panel. It cracks on the seam. Unfortunately when it happened to my friend's SP700, the part was on backorder for two weeks. So far I have not experienced this problem with my SP700. My warranty runs out at the end of this month and my dealer is to check into the price and call me tomorrow. Even if it grossly over priced, it sounds like it may be a good investment.

Ok, I don't own a Polaris, but after reading this post about the gear noise I decided to go see if my 650 made this noise too, I cut the engine off and coasted down a hill and it made all kinds of gear noises, thought I just let yall know that it's not only Polaris.
