Before I went to Honda I rode Polarises. Hondas do hold up better, work better, and handle better.

I havent had my SP500 long enough to say how dependable it is or will be,and the only problem that wasnt my fault is the speedodmeter keeps braking. But thanks to other readers of forum that should be fixed this weekend. but come to think of it the zuzki I had I couldnt keep seals in the swing arm. And the Honda's I've owned wouldnt start when it was cold,or hot come to think of it.
The electrical system went out and the Honda mech couldnt fix it.
So I dont think Honda is better you can defintely
buy one cheaper, thats why I owned one.Im not saying Polaris is better or will be dependable but I want trade for another Honda.

My dad has a 94 polaris 300 4x4 non named atv. My nephews beat it in my estimation. I never let them
drive my atv. His atv is still on the road.

My cousin owns an old? (maybe 93,not sure year), polaris 250 4x4 non named atv. Still on the road and in good shape.

I have only had my year 2000 polaris expedition 425 cc 5 speed since may of last year. Its in great condition. I explored northern minnesota all
summer last year with it. I used it grouse hunting all fall and took it out allot. 3 weeks vacation for grouse hunting. I have been driving it out on the ice, ice fishing and through the snow. So far, the longer I drive it the better its running.

So far my Polaris Xplorer has been better than the honda and the Yamahas it replaces, been more reliable and compared to the Honda 300 4x4, it is far superior in ride quality and 4x4 duties. and i bought the Honda new in 1994 for 5000 and i paid 4200 for my 2000 Xplorer 250. My friend has a 1996 425 Magnum 4x4 and has had zero troubles. My Honda hated to get wet, if i took it in any decent water it would not start for days, it was my most disliked ATV i have ever owned. but to be honest i had a Warrior before it, so it wasnt as fun.

I tend to be hard on my fourwheelers and break a lot of things on them. I do keep up on all maintence, but I ride through a lot of mud and do a lot of jumping in sandpits etc. where the fourwheeler gets hard wear quickly. My experience has been that the polaris break quicker and are lot harder to maintain and work on. You need special tools a lot more and there are lots of things in the way of regular maintence items like the sprak plug and oil dipstick etc. I think polaris's have the best ride and easiest to use controls I have ridden, but they do tend to lose some reliability with the features.

Just my experience

This won't sound good for Polaris, but I have had my SP 500 since December 7, brand new, and it is currently in the shop, this is the third time. Overheating is the main problem. There is either a short in the wire between the thermo-sensor in the rad, or a problem with the sensor or the fan itself. Have had this problem since day one, but I am sure its just the one quad. Probably built on a monday morning after the Vikings lost again. Even though I've had problems, I still love the quad, and will buy another. Right now my dad wants to trade in his 350 Big Bear Yamaha for an easy to drive Polaris. I've got him interested in the 335 Sportsman. He likes the fact that its air cooled, and he loves the auto-tranny (belt driven) and the comfy ride of the Sportsman.
