I will be ordering new tires and wheels for my scrambler 500 4X4. I often ride in rocky areas. I will be ordering from rocky mountain. I'm leaning toward...(a)Pure sport bandits 22x10x10r 23x7x10f (b)ITP holeshots 22x11x10r 23x7x10f (c)Dirt devil XT 22x10x10 23x8x10. My concern is protecting my new aluminum rims(Douglas). Is it possible to order different rim sizes, so that the tire protects the wheel without possibility of breaking bead while riding? Are some tires just designed that way, and others are not? I basically would like my tires to stick out more than my rims, unlike stock scrambler wheels. Any sugestions would be appreciated. THANK YOU ALL

there are a few ways to do this, overinflate your tires a bit to keep them a bit stiffer, order a wider tiresize which will cause the tires to stick out to the sides of your rims. i race alot of XC so keeping rims in good shape was a problem for me, so i just use the cheap ITP steel wheels which are very strong and also very cheap to replace but since i began overinflating the tires by 2-4 lbs i havent had any rim problems.

ferd350ct,

Yes you can order different rim sizes for the back tires. You could go down to a 9" diameter in the back. Most rims for the back are 8" wide, so the possibility of cliping your rims are pretty remote. Basically, what you want is a 9" (diameter)x 8" (wide) back rims. The fronts must remain the stock 10"x 5" size.

You may also want to consider having the reinforcement rings installed on the rims. OMF does a very nice job, makes the beads much stronger.
