jollyrancher,

Are you really that much of halfwit that the point just went over your head.

I don't care what the dealer said. If it is the noise I am thinking about there will not be a damn thing they can do about it. It won't be the first or last time it happened. Other manufacture's models have their quirky characteristics. I would be here all day listing them. I gave examples in my other comment unlike you.

What I meant about "backing it up", was that you made a comment for all people on this forum to read and did not give any information to back it up. If you were there, you should have stated the facts up front. I would like to see your complete statistics and analysis of all brands of ATV's. What are your experiences. Can you actually say you've experienced all the brands? I can. I agree that some Hondas are reliable but I've seen many with their issues. They are living of the reputation of the legendary "Big red", and 250r's. I had both and loved them both. I just get sick of people like you making "bla, bla, bla-bla-bla" comments with no facts to make the point you are trying to make, if there is even one.

These forums are meant to give helpful information, not **** people off. It's just wasteful garbage. ATV’ers need to really stick together as one big community and stop the brand bashing! Sometimes I forget that I may be dealing with children in these forums and maybe that was the case this time.

Maybe you think you got a rise out of me. You did not. I simply HAD A POINT AND MADE IT from my own personal experiences.

Next time bust your friends chops with an email or something. A public forum is not the place.

I've said my peace and will not continue this garbage! Say what you will but I doubt you can dispute what I said.

2000SCRAMBLRMAN,

Which Vortec engine? I'm picking up a 2002 Sierra Denali Thursday with the 6.0 Litre Vortec V8.

I have heard the 2000-up 4.3, 4.8, 5.3, & 6.0 all have a piston slap. I have a 2000 S10 with the 4.3 and when I start it up there is definately a piston slap. I walked through a parking lot and heard every S10, Blazer, Astro, Silverado, Tahoe, & Suburban (and their GMC brothers) all do it.

The 5.3 and 6.0. They may have did something for the 2002 models but, I'm not sure. Go to google.com, yahoo.com, or excite.com a search on "piston slap" and vortec. You will get a lot of info about it. I had a GM rep on the phone actually admit it to me.

The issue is with cold starts. You get about a 20 - 30 second piston slap until the piston heats up and expands. They claim to have ripped down engines with the problem with no excessive wear from it.

It doesn't seem like a big deal to me now but it did when I first heard about it. Shame on them for calling it a "Normal noise" though.
