got another problem with this '94 sportsman 400 4X4...
how do i tighten the front drive chains?.. stupid Q, i know.

i got it used from a little old lady that never rode it and lost all the paperwork including the manual.
so i have no idea how the tightener works.
my first 4X4...
are there specific tensions, tools, etc?
i don't want to fry the bearings by doing it wrong.

anyhow, after a month of some of the worst stuff i've ever done to any motorcycle,
(rode a 200 mph/10 second nitro harley through a guardrail at the dragstrip once...)
it's gotten a bit loose and when i goose it, the front chain slips.

is there a fuse for the lights?

thanX.
you guys are true gurus!

I will try to scan the chain adjustment instructions from an old manual i've got. It's for a 95 model, but explains the 3 chain set-up.

WELL, I've got the instructions scanned, but I don't know how to get them on here!
If I had your e-mail address I could send them to you. OR, E-mail me your mailing address and I'll just send you this whole manual. I don't need it anymore because the theives that stole the quad forgot to steal the manual and the keys!!! MY E-MAIL .... TDW31@YAHOO.COM

Just to get ya rolling before you see the scans.....take the two chain guards off, so you can see the center sprocket. Front tightener

The shaft is on an eccentric. Loosened by the bolts on the holder. An 'ol racer like you should get 'er from there! (I got my bike used with no manual too.....so I'm on a "learn as you go" curve myself.....I'm also an old racer....good luck!)

Thanx Dave.
that link was a huge help.

what did ya race?

mine was a 88 harley XLCH 1200 on the bottle/meth with a monroe frame.
it ran 9:50's as a dial in, but would put it deep in the 9's without too much lean-out.

busted a wheelie bar on 7/4/'98 at alaska raceway park (hard left!!!) and that thing came apart like a grenade
as it went over the rail leaving me to discover the splendor of roadrash.
after that i went to cars... cars are better...
lost a $45000.00 bike and it was just a test & tune!

I had a 72 Duster that I bought when I was 15. Sold it last summer with full roll cage, tubs, race seats. 14.5x33 slicks, 700 hp 440 tunnel ram. I never ended up running that engine at the track, but it cam out of a heavier Duster that ran 10.2's through the muffs. My car was street legal and street driven....part of the reason I sold it: the last time I drove it, I lost my steering papers for 3 months! Now I'm just into my sleds and quads...camping, drinking beer, getting old, lazy!

On the chains they are a real pain to adjust till youlearn the tricks. And the lights i would bet you have a bad battry and have run it like that blowing EVERY light on the thing.when you run a polaris with a bad battry or looose connection it will give a power surge to the lights blowing them all. If you want the specifics on tightening the chains pm me.Got some tricks.
