New skins on the Scambler !!! I got tired of the stock steel wheels and 489's. I put a set of Douglas .190 aluminum wheels with ITP Holeshot XCT tires ( all stock sizes ) on them, last week.
I had changed the front wheel studs from the stockers to the Sportsman rear studs, the week prior to getting the wheels. Polaris Part # 7515513, about $0.75 per stud, as they're about 5/32 inch longer than the stockers. They're long enough to give full thread engaugement in the lug nut with a thread or two outside of the nut.
The wheels went on without a prob, except the rear lug nuts for the stock steel wheels are tapered ( Acorn style ), so I turned the nuts around and put washers between nuts and the wheels.
Also, with the 6 ply tires and .190 aluminum wheels, the weight was identical to the stock 489's and steel wheels. I weighed both fronts, the front's were 1 Lb. lighter, while the rears were 1 Lb. heavier.
Don't expect to drop a bunch of weight by going to .190 aluminum rims if you're going to put it back on with 6 ply HD tires.

Is the tire like 5 lbs heavier than a 489 then? I think I'll just put my 489's back on my ITP when they get here if that's the case.

Thanks

I'm not sure of the weight difference of the individual components. The Holeshot XCT's are a very heavy tire due to the 6 ply construction. The .190's are relatively heavy too, even heavier that the stock polaris aluminum rims. I have heard of the stock aluminums bending easily.
I was looking to drop some weight, but the added durability was a reasonable trade off.

Right, ok. Since you have a 400, you already had aluminum rims. You original post said steel.
I have a 500. The follwing will answer all of my questions. What was the weight of the holeshot and wheel? I weighed a 489 rear wheel and tire and it came it at 25 lbs.

No, not all of the 400 2X4's came with aluminum wheels, floorboards, or front bumper. All of those pieces are / were steel ( I did the magnet test ) on my 2000. Some 400's got aluminum, some didn't...
About 28 Lbs. each on the rears. I weighed both wheels at the same time to get an accurate weight.

Captnemo,
I also put aluminum rims on my 97
sport and found that the lugs were almost too short.I am understanding that you used sportsman rear lugs for the front of your Scrambler? If so I am going to try this.My studs now do not make it out of the lugs.I have them locktited on and have had no problem.I hope I am understanding you right.

Thanks,
J Prentice

Here's the part # for the studs: 7515513 They're $0.75 per stud.
With Douglas .190's, there are two threads on the stud outside of the lug nut.

Just a NOTE

I believe all 2001 and Newer 400 Scramblers come with Aluminum wheels
The others I know of, are the 2002 X series (500X and 400 4x4X)
2000 and back Sports did not come with aluminum wheels from the factory.
I have noticed most 4x4 Scramblers, 400 and 500 prior to 2000 came with aluminum wheels
